End of the Quarter

Can you believe an entire one-fourth of the year is already over? Where does the time go? I'm 30,000 feet above the city of Chicago as I ponder this after having spent a surreal weekend there. So much can happen in the time it takes for a Caesium atom to split (exactly one second). A kiss on the cheek, a wave, a smile. I believe that time is our most precious resource and how we choose to spend that resource is pretty much everything. Money you can make or lose, but your time is finite. They say time flies and for the most part this is true but every once in a while, it doesn't and that actually isn't a bad thing. Every once in a while, time slows like molasses, its wings clipped and every moment drawn out and savored like a sip of wine, which in the drinking, you can taste all the years that went into its making. If you ever find a way to spend your time that feels that exquisite, you should consider spending more of your time doing that. You get a lot more bang for your chronon-buck. For me, this means flying back out to Chicago as often as I can. The songs pour out of you in a city like that. I'm looking forward to breaking ground on a new album later this year. The words and thoughts that will hold this next record together swirl in my head like the nimbus and cirrus clouds outside my window. Stay tuned. I promise to let you know when they touch down.

My Tipping Point

I'm currently listening to Sufjan Stevens wondering how the Sufjan Stevens's of the world come into our lives. They seem to pop out of nowhere don't you think? One day, no one knows who they are, the next day they're everywhere. What is the tipping point for people like these? What is the mechanism? How does it happen?  I have had the good fortune of being able to write songs that seem to resonate with people and of that, I'm very much proud. I hope that some day soon, I too will be able to find my tipping point. In the short term, however, I'm slowly overcoming the shock of moving to a new city (Boston, for those of you who don't know) and reacquainting myself with the creative process and how that fits into my new environment. I haven't had it all figured out yet but I am getting there. The next couple of months are going to be quietly progressive ones for me. Lots of writing but not many shows. Time to find my feet and regroup out here. It's a new leaf. A rebirth of sorts and I'm quite excited. Will keep you posted. Love you. Thanks for being there. It feels good to know you are.

End of the Year

It's that time of the year. We're at that point in the year where you've stopped looking forward and started looking back on the year. Resolution time. Time to take stock, to reflect. Any major shifts in your life? Any milestones? Did you do what you set out to with your 365 and a quarter days? What about the next 365? In the course of this past year, I have released my first EP, toured from Michigan to Maine, moved to a new major city, and started work on an epic album. How do I top that? I'm going to have to think on that one. It'll be part of my next blog. I'm a creatively free-thinking scatterbrain so I'll have to focus, which may take a while. Whatever happens, I know next year will be an exciting part of the next leg of this life's journey. I plan to take stock often along the way and log my comings and goings so I hope you'll come back and see what I'm up to from time to time. Happy holidays friends. Love ya.   :)
